Menopause

Our Naturopathic Doctors have focused on women’s health for over 20 years, supporting women across British Columbia through perimenopause and menopause with thoughtful, individualized care. These stages of life are natural — but the physical and emotional shifts that accompany them can feel complex, unpredictable, and at times overwhelming. We believe women deserve time, education, and a comprehensive plan tailored to their unique physiology, history, and goals. Rather than brief, symptom-focused visits, our menopause appointments are designed to explore the full picture — hormones, sleep, mood, metabolism, cardiovascular health, bone health, and long-term vitality.

We offer evidence-informed hormone replacement therapy (HRT), integrative options, and ongoing monitoring to ensure your treatment feels balanced and sustainable. Every woman’s experience is different, and your care should reflect that. Most extended health plans in B.C. cover naturopathic visits for menopause care, making comprehensive support both accessible and affordable. If you’re ready for personalized guidance, longer appointment times, and a practitioner who truly listens, we’re here to walk this transition with you.

Symptoms of Menopause

Common concerns experienced during (peri)menopause and menopause often include hot flashes and night sweats, along with anxiety, irritability, low mood, and other emotional changes. Many women notice sleep disruption or insomnia, as well as vaginal dryness, shifts in libido, and changes in sexual health. Joint pain and body aches may develop, alongside changes in body composition, including central weight gain and altered muscle tone. Skin may become drier, hair may thin, and elasticity can gradually decline. Menstrual cycles often become irregular, with spotting, heavier flow, or clotting. Cognitive symptoms such as brain fog, memory changes, reduced focus, and persistent fatigue are also commonly reported during this transition.

Our Approach to Menopause Care

Menopause care at Vancouver Island Naturopathic Clinic Inc. is structured, thorough, and individualized. We recognize that symptoms often overlap with broader metabolic, cardiovascular, neurological, and emotional changes occurring during this stage of life. Our process is designed to ensure nothing is overlooked.

Comprehensive Clinical Evaluation

Your care begins with a detailed review of your health history, symptom patterns, and current concerns. When appropriate, this may include:

  • Focused physical examination

  • Review of prior laboratory results and imaging

  • Assessment of metabolic, cardiovascular, and bone health risk factors

  • Evaluation of sleep, mood, cognitive changes, and sexual health

  • Serum laboratory testing

  • Body composition analysis

  • Pelvic or other ultrasound imaging

  • Comprehensive metabolic and cardiovascular screening

  • Hormone testing

All testing is recommended selectively and thoughtfully, based on your presentation, stage of transition, and personal goals.

Personalized Treatment Planning

Following assessment, we develop a treatment plan that reflects your priorities and comfort level. Options may include:

  • Nutrition and movement strategies to support muscle mass, bone density, weight management and improve metabolic resilience

  • Targeted nutraceutical or botanical therapies

  • Acupuncture when appropriate

  • Sleep optimization and stress-regulation approaches

  • Vaginal, sexual, and pelvic health support

  • Hormone replacement therapy or non hormonal symptom management

Any prescribing decision follows comprehensive assessment and informed consent, with ongoing monitoring for safety and effectiveness.

Ongoing Monitoring & Adjustments

Menopause care is not a one-time visit. As your physiology changes, your plan may evolve. We schedule follow-up appointments to:

  • Review symptom progression

  • Monitor laboratory markers where relevant

  • Adjust dosing or therapeutic strategies

  • Ensure your treatment remains aligned with your health goals

Menopause represents a significant physiological transition and is not a disorder. Our role is to provide clarity in a space that often feels confusing. We are committed to offering balanced, current information so you can make decisions with confidence. With the right guidance, this stage of life can be one of strength, recalibration, and renewed focus on long-term vitality. We welcome you to book a consultation and begin a plan tailored specifically to you.
