First Line Therapy® (FLT) Program

FLT is a personalized lifestyle medicine approach supported by clinical guidelines. This structured program is designed to support patients in making sustainable changes in nutrition, movement, and stress management, often used as first-line care for chronic conditions such as:

  • Obesity

  • Insulin resistance and Type 2 Diabetes

  • High cholesterol

  • Hypertension

  • Metabolic syndrome

  • Chronic inflammation

Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis Testing

Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) is a simple, non-invasive test that maybe used by your Naturopathic Doctor that measures your body composition—the ratio of fat, muscle, water, and other components in your body. During the test, small, painless electrical impulses are sent through the body via electrode pads placed on your hands and feet. Because different tissues (like fat, muscle, and water) conduct electricity at different rates, the BIA device can calculate a detailed picture of what’s going on beneath the surface.

What Does a BIA Test Measure?

A BIA test provides important insights into your overall health and metabolism, including:

  • Body Fat Percentage – the proportion of your body made up of fat tissue

  • Lean Body Mass – muscle, bone, and organs

  • Cellular Hydration – how well your cells are absorbing and holding water

  • Phase Angle – an indicator of cellular health and resilience

  • Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) – the number of calories your body burns at rest

  • Body Mass Index (BMI) – a calculation based on height and weight

  • Visceral Fat Estimate – an approximation of fat around internal organs

This information helps guide your customized treatment plan, allowing for a targeted, holistic approach to your care.

Preparing for Your BIA Assessment

To ensure accurate results, please follow these guidelines before your appointment:

  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before testing

  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 12 hours prior

  • Avoid caffeine and food for 4 hours prior

  • Avoid high-sodium meals within 24 hours

  • Remove hosiery and avoid applying moisturizer on test day

  • Drink at least one glass of water 1 hour before your appointment
